Having fallen asleep at the dinner table almost burying our heads in Eryn's delicious tortilla soup, we realised that jet lag had struck us both. We had a reasonable night's sleep in the lovely accommodation of Steve & Eryn in their Hammersmith flat.
So we had a slow start to Day 2. Getting our bearings and arranging SIM cards etc. we made our way to the Trafalgar Tour Office for check in and confirmed that they in fact want us to be back there at 5.15 the next morning! The answer was YES.
It's been a long time since we visited the Tower of London with the kids in 1990. So we decide to make this our major event for the day. We join the Beefeater tour at 2pm and are fortunate to have the very witty Billy the Beefeater as our guide...what a character
The tower has many facets including the Crown Jewels, the Royal Armoury, the torture chamber and reeks with English history. We climb up and down turrets and towers and by the time we finish the tour and our own exploration three and a half hours quickly pass.
On our way to the subway we stop to watch a tall masted ship pass under Tower Bridge which seems to stop all of London. Our subway train returns us to Hammersmith with ease.
Steve and Eryn are already home and ready for a night out at a local pub. Much to our delight the extra place at our reserved table was soon filled by surprise guest Nixon Gill. Nixon, an old family friend, is currently holidaying in Europe and now lives in Sydney.
A brisk walk back to the apartment and off to bed ready for the 4.20 alarm to ring.
